The Assistant Principal's Office

Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends and Members of the John F. Kennedy Middle School Community,

As we begin the 2011-2012 school year, there is much to be excited about and thankful for.  Despite a national trend of cuts to educational programming, JFK continues to offer an excellent, well-rounded education for our students.  We will continue to creativley present the common core curriculum across academic areas, enrich our students lives in Exploratory Block, provide opportunities to learn Spanish, French or Latin and offer enrichment and extra curricular opportunites in our After School Program.  I am hopeful that our students will rise to meet all the daily challenges that are presented to them.  I am hopeful that our faculty will continue to present the curriculum in ways which inspire wonder, reflection and thought provoking questions.  I hope our parents and guardians are supportive partners in every aspect of their childrens education and that collectively we are all fulfilled personally and professionally as we share in the joy of watching the students grow and mature.

I am pleased to welcome our new 6th graders and their families, our new students across grade levels and welcome back our 7th and 8th grade families. JFK is a great learning community that offers middle schoolers a well-rounded experience and I encourage everyone to get involved in making all of our childrens middle school years happy and fulfilling.

We have an office staff that is reponsive and attentive to the needs of all who contact them.  We have an incredibly diverse and talented staff who provide a positive academic environment for children to learn and to grow.  We have a Guidance Staff that strongly supports our students and families.  We have a custodial crew that makes this buiilding look as if it was built yesterday.  We have students, who when they smile, continually remind me why I entered the field of education in the first place.

My primary role as Assistant Principal is to support our students and our faculty as we create a safe and respectful climate where every child develops a strong sense of self, feels empowered as a learner, is nurtured within a community of mutual respect and is given growth opportunities.  I am privileged to work with a Principal and staff who shares that vision.

Communication with our families is an integral part of the middle school experience.  Children can and will learn best in an environment in which home and school form a strong bond with shared understanding and common goals,  I encourage all to get involved through opportunities like the PTO, the School Council, or through various team activities.  Attend a band concert, a play, a performance by our chorus, I promise you won't be disappointed and you will be both entertained and impressed by our students.  If you can, get involved with our after-school program.  We are only limited by what interested people (teachers, staff, community members, parents/guardians) have to offer.  I also encourage you to get in contact with the appropriate staff member regarding your concerns,  We all have email and voicemail.  As a community building, the doors are always open and you are always welcome here.  Please view the calendar (of events) and the Notices Sent sections on the middle school website to find out what is happening at JFK..

Regards,

Mr. Sal J. Canata, III

Assistant Principal
